The focus of this course was to gain knowledge about the topic of Interactive Materiality and the applications of it in the field of design. The project started with the analysis of the concept of materiality through everyday traces on objects. The purpose of the assignment was to develop a concept dealing with different levels of analysis of the traces represented by the pictures. The group selected to work with symbolic notions such as detachment, disgust, and unexpected beauty from the ones extracted from the analysis. The goal was to so to create an object able to provoke and arouse feelings of attraction and repulsion simultaneously. To make a richer interaction we introduced the aspect of haptic materiality thus the manipulation of matter within the dynamics of the interaction. The result is a probe made of bags filled with liquids, that were moved through servo motor under them, as they were pulsing. Also underneath the bags, some LEDs were placed and programmed to turn on when the bags were being touched, so to chage completely the apperence if the liquids inside them, so to reveal the unexpected beauty factor. The disgust factor could be used in projects that require some care in handling, or as a warning not to do a certain action.
