The Process
Final Reflections
Designing for a ritual requires a perfect knowledge of the ritual itself. The attention to detail is critical because details can define the personality of the ritual. The many iterations that we made during the design process of our product for the ritual ‘Caffè per Due’ made me realize that only through living the object, and to test it in the context, you immediately notice if the choices made would be perceived as the natural and spontaneous flow, and let the ritual been performed as designed.
I believe that to make an object part of a ritual or giving birth to a ritual designed around an object, is really important that you have to live with the object. Experiencing the object for some time, in order to create an invisible relationship between those who use it, the object itself and the space where it is envisioned to be.
One of the most important learning points that I have gained from this course is that, during the design process, every change that you do to your project has to be validated in the context where you imagine your object to be. Crucial for the development of the concept and of the gestures around it is the continuous testing and validation.
